Hi. I was one of the 19,746, but despite the WOW at the scale of it, I can’t help but feel a bit empty about it. What actually ‘happened’? I feel like lots of conversations took place (which is great) but what changed?
It’s easy for us to elevate these issues to the surface, but this energy needs to be turned into tangible action. I don’t have the answers – but I feel like we should use our conversations to find them?

Hi Andy- don’t conversations change things? Isn’t the memetic distribution of ideas the way that change can spread?

If you’re after a way to make a contribution with your ideas, can I suggest that you join Planning For Good? We have our first brief and there’s a New York Chapter:

We have our first NYC meet organized for this Thursday, November 1, 2007.

Where: POKE Office, 40 Bond Street, 6th Floor.
When: 8.30am – 10am

Bring your coffee, breakfast and ideas !! Do RSVP on the Planning For Good – NYC group wall. Also, let us know if you’d like to bring a friend.

We are super excited to get this moving and look forward to working with you!

Hi Katie
I didn’t mean to sound down on the whole thing. And conversations certainly have the power to shift values and culture over time. I just feel like the blog action day was a missed opportunity in some ways. It could have been framed to instill specific action and against set objectives — maybe used to petition to politicians etc.
Incidentally, I’ll be the first one to admit my contribution made no attempt to do this or even comment on it. But maybe that’s part of it: Without a specific goal (beyond talking) I, along with may others probably, just rambled a bit. (Like I’m doing now!)

I’ll definitely look into Planning For Good. I’m in London, though and not New York.

“dropping the pebble was great, but it was the ripples that made the difference”

I’m sure there is a London group Andy- we are currently working on a Unicef brief, and everyone is welcome!
