It is the imperfection that makes something unique, and hence, ironically, perfect. Search and somewhere you’ll find the Ming vase makers used this as part of their philosophy. But I’m still double checking my spelling.

Exactly, Stig, exactly.
You might love this article The Laws of Architecture From a Physicist’s Perspective which talks about imperfection not only increasing the beauty of a structure but also increasing its strength too.
What I was trying to encompass here was that it is our scars that make us not only beautiful, but more resiliant and more flexible .
It is when we are tested, that we have an opportunity to remind ourselves of our collective vulnerability. There’s huge comfort to be gained in humility.
Perfection is cold. Falling over is crap, but it is a fertile bed for humour.

Hi Katie – Luc (of Mindblob fame) sent me a link to your post. I just wrote about the concept of wabi-sabi on my blog (here’s the link: http://writenowisgood.typepad.com/write_now_is_good/2007/08/imperfection-sp.html) and you might find it interesting. It’s about what happens when we accept the imperfect and create!

Nice to “meet” you. I’m a member of “The Age of Conversation” too.🙂

Hi Kristen. Don’t you love an example of BSP (that’s bloggers sensory perception) where we all contemplate and write about the same thing at the same time. Good to see that that old ‘world mind’ is ticking along.
Nice to meet you too!
